Digital Content Editor (Wordpress)
Job Summary
We are looking for a meticulous Digital Content Editor to polish high-quality articles for our national home-improvement website. While our writers are licensed pros in their field, we need an editor to take a ~3k word draft and turn it into a published masterpiece. This role isn't just about catching typos; it’s about ensuring the article flows perfectly, looks professional, and is fully optimized for our readers.
You will be responsible for the final look of the content. If you have a passion for crisp grammar, a knack for visual storytelling, and an interest in how things work (DIY, home improvement, or tech), we want to hear from you.
WordPress experience is a plus, but not a requirement—we are happy to train a candidate who has the right editorial instincts. A background in the sciences, technical writing, or hands-on home services (construction, trades, etc.) is a major bonus.
We believe in writing for humans, not bots. You will never be asked to do 'keyword stuffing' or compromise the flow of an article for SEO. Your goal is simply to make the article as helpful, readable, and well-formatted as possible.
Responsibilities
• Copyediting & Proofreading: Review professional drafts for grammar, syntax, spelling, and brand voice. Most articles are long-form and 2,750 to 3,000 words in length.
• Content Enhancement: Improve the "flow" and readability of articles, ensuring subheaders and bullet points make the piece scannable.
• WordPress Publishing: Upload and format content directly into WordPress (training provided).
• Visual Curation: Use our pre-made Canva templates to add 5-7 images with simple factoid overlays, and make 1-2 simple infographics if warranted.
• Internal Linking & References: Add 3-5 internal links to content in a natural fashion. Add a couple outbound references at bottom of article.
• Quality Control: Perform a final check to ensure the article is 100% ready for a national audience before hitting publish.
Experience & Requirements
• Editorial Instinct: A natural sense for what makes an article engaging and easy to read.
• Technical Literacy: Comfortable learning new software (WordPress, Canva etc.) quickly and can follow technical DIY home topics (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
• Attention to Detail: You are the person who notices a double space or a mismatched font from a mile away.
• Reliability: Ability to manage your own schedule and meet deadlines consistently.
Compensation & Benefits
• Rate: Flat $75 per article (Estimated 1–3 hours of work per piece).
• Volume: Flexible workload of 3 to 15 articles per month depending on availability of your time and our editorial calendar.
