Job Summary
As a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor, you will be responsible for providing active and effective learning for students in all applicable educational settings, acting as a professional and academic role model, and committing to student satisfaction. You will teach classes in classrooms, labs, clinical, and online settings, as well as outside the classroom during campus and student activities. Your primary focus will be to prepare students for their clinical experience with lab practice, classroom lectures, and simulated learning.
Key Responsibilities
Instruct classes as assigned, preparing for classes by organizing and becoming familiar with student material
Prepare lesson plans and course material as required, objectively assessing students for academic performance
Effectively organize and present subject matter to students, utilizing instructional plans provided
Supplement approved student material as required, ensuring the security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
Effectively utilize and monitor learning management systems, ensuring classes are conducted for the required length of time
Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, setting an example and being a role model for professionalism and conduct
Provide regular and constructive feedback to students regarding academic performance, grades, professionalism, conduct, attendance, and other topics as necessary
Proactively inform the Program Director of any student attendance, academic, or behavioral concerns for retention management
Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance to ensure accuracy
Ensure compliance with the published attendance policy, including recording and posting daily
Facilitate tutoring and makeup work as needed, ensuring and monitoring student participation
Refer students to the Program Director and/or Academic Dean if additional advising is necessary
Related Duties Outside the Classroom
Record keeping, scanning, etc.
Stay informed of current standards related to instructional methodology
Participate in and document ongoing faculty and professional development activities, including any Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that may be required for certification or licensure
Attend outside workshops and seminars to improve instructional and professional skills
Attend orientations, staff meetings, and faculty meetings as scheduled
Assist with preparations for graduation ceremonies
Attend graduation ceremonies as requested
Participate in student and campus activities as requested (Lamplighter nominations, field trips, community activities, etc.)
Assist in inventory, organization, and ordering of supplies and classroom material
Maintain classrooms in a neat and orderly fashion
Assist in maintenance of equipment and technology
Report any non-functioning equipment to the Program Director or Academic Dean
Requirements and Qualifications
Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) or a related field
Minimum credentials of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with specialty certifications in either/both OB/Gyn & Abdominal and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
Four years of professional experience as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer, and/or vascular technologist
Teaching/Management experience preferred
Experience with educating students in a clinical setting preferred
