Position Description

The full time, non-exempt Dental Hygienist (Sealant Program) is an essential member of a high performing dental team providing direct services for the Sealant Program. This position may include support in the care and treatment of adult and pediatric patients within the dental office as well. The Dental Hygienist will provide direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services to children who are part of the SEAL! Michigan program. The Registered Dental Hygienist (Sealant Program) is responsible for providing appropriate oral health education including development of materials, sealant application, equipment maintenance, supply ordering, grant reporting and tracking of all services rendered. In addition, the Dental Hygienist (Sealant Program) contacts community partners and engages school systems to promote the sealant program and services.Works collaboratively with the team to create and maintain a culture of excellence and dedication to providing compassionate and high-quality dental care to residents and the community.

Schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate work schedule to include some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:
• Assists in the oral health management of all dental patients, with a focus on SEAL! Michigan program patients and children.
• Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principals of oral hygiene and periodontal cares.
• Records patient-hygiene transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record ensuring the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
• Refers patients for further treatment when necessary, discussing treatment plans with parents or guardians of minor patients.
• Provides oral health education and appropriate counseling to individuals and larger groups promoting the SEAL! Michigan program.
• Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, debridement, sealants, and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols.
• Adheres to center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues.
• Uses the Integrated model of care, to collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure appropriate and complete health care management of all patients.
• Gathers and maintains all SEAL! Michigan grant requirements by tracking and reporting all required elements in a timely manner.
• Further supports the SEAL! Michigan program by ordering necessary supplies and maintaining portable equipment.
• Acts as the “face” of the SEAL! Michigan program by initiating contact with community partners and school systems to promote and inform them about the services of the SEAL! Michigan program.
• Responsible for entering correct billing codes to ensure reimbursement for services rendered.
• Routinely provides services within school buildings and on the dental bus in community settings.
• Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dental director or dentist in accordance with state regulations and laws.
• Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with dental clinic directive and center policy as well as state and federal regulations.
• Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and organization rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene, as well as those relating to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as assigned. During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties similar to but not limited to those in the job description.

What are we looking for?
• Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene required
• A minimum of two or more years in a registered dental hygienist position.
• Strong computer skills and experience working in a dental care environment.
• Unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Michigan.
• Current CPR (BLS) certification.
• Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide certification preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
