Job Summary In this rewarding and challenging role, you will work primarily with students who are in special education, presenting material and activities designed to improve skills in assigned areas such as reading, writing, math, computers, and/or vocational education. You will work individually or in small groups, recording grades and other measures of students' progress and behavior. Key Responsibilities Presents material and activities to improve skills in assigned areas, such as reading, writing, math, computers, and/or vocational education Works individually or in small groups with students who are in special education Records grades and other measures of students' progress and behavior Provides instructional assistance in assigned areas Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with staff, students, and parents Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion Operates a personal computer and related software to support instructional activities Maintains effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of education, experience, and skills that demonstrate your ability to work effectively with students with special needs. The minimum qualifications for this position include: High School diploma or equivalent Some prior experience working with school-age children preferred CPR, first aid, and district-approved behavior management techniques may be required Valid Alaska driver's license required Must have either an AA degree, or 48 semester hours, or be willing to take and pass the ParaPro Assessment (support available) Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience working in a special education setting Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and strategies Experience with personal computers and related software Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a range of skills and competencies, including: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with students with special needs Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and strategies Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Special Education Paraeducator, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive educational environment where you can develop your skills and knowledge and advance your career. Compensation, Perks, and Benefits This is a part-time 9-month position, working 35 hours per week, with a starting salary of $22.97 per hour. We offer an excellent benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off. Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
