Job Overview As an Intervention Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in our K-12 Intervention Program, working closely with certificated teachers to provide remediation, enrichment, and extension activities for eligible students. Key Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to students in need of additional support, under the direction of the certificated teacher Assist with preparing materials, providing testing proctoring/assistance, and supporting student discipline Help the teacher with record keeping and other administrative tasks as needed Engage with students in a positive and supportive manner, promoting a growth mindset and a love of learning Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with diverse needs Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following minimum requirements: Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent Meet one of the following paraeducator requirements: Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council Provide proof of meeting the requirements by uploading a copy of an official college transcript or ETS score, and proof of high school diploma/equivalent if applicable Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Previous experience working with students in a educational setting, particularly in a support role Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques to support students with diverse learning needs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and other staff members Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and circumstances Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software and technology Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and competencies: Patience and empathy : The ability to work with students who may be struggling or frustrated, and to provide a supportive and non-judgmental learning environment Flexibility and adaptability : The ability to adjust to changing circumstances and priorities, and to be flexible in your approach to supporting students Communication and interpersonal skills : The ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and other staff members, and to communicate effectively with diverse audiences Organizational and time management skills : The ability to prioritize tasks, manage your time effectively, and maintain accurate records and documentation Cultural competence and sensitivity : The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and to provide a welcoming and inclusive learning environment Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As an Intervention Paraeducator in Puyallup School District, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with diverse needs Mentorship and coaching from experienced teachers and staff members Opportunities to work with students across different grade levels and subjects, and to develop your expertise in a particular area of interest A collaborative and supportive work environment that values teamwork, creativity, and innovation Competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off Work Environment and Company Culture Puyallup School District is committed to creating a positive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and excellence.
