Feeding America West Michigan is a food bank dedicated to relieving hunger and increasing food security in the region. They are seeking a Data Specialist to acquire, clean, and analyze data to support their mission and communicate findings effectively.ResponsibilitiesAcquire datasets from primary and secondary sources, cleaning and organizing them as neededVisualize available data in tables, charts, and maps to make it palatable for analysisCoordinate with internal teams to identify and leverage data relevant to their activitiesFind, read, and annotate published research and data from governmental, scholarly, journalistic, and nonprofit sourcesDraft summaries of metrics and trends for use in internal and external communicationEnter, retrieve, and analyze donor data to support development and marketing activitiesAddress special requests and explain notable trends and outliersInvestigate and diagnose data issuesSocialize data and research with stakeholders to make lessons actionableParticipate in network conversations with community partners, other food banks, the Food Bank Council, and Feeding America regarding newly released research and best practices for storing and utilizing dataContribute to mandatory reporting to Feeding America and other partnersSkillsCandidates must have a strong interest in supporting neighbors facing hunger in West Michigan and the Upper PeninsulaThis interest should come with a curiosity about what drives the need for food assistance and how best to address itProficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, is essentialAn affinity for working with numbersStrong written communication skillsThe ability to juggle multiple tasks at onceCandidates should be prepared to tackle projects and solve problems independently but also remain excited to share results with othersA degree in a relevant field is preferredTechnical skills obtained through hobbyist-level engagement with mathematics, statistics, computer science, programming, or a related subject are a plusBenefits403b matchingCompany-provided life insurance and short/long term disabilityPaid vacation and holidaysAccess to affordable family health and/or dental insurance planGym membership reimbursement (up to $20/month)Company OverviewFeeding America West Michigan distributes food to alleviate hunger and enhance food security in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
