About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Data Quality Testing Lead to drive quality assurance for our modern enterprise data platform built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using BigQuery. You will lead the test strategy, planning, automation, and execution to validate data pipelines, transformation logic, ETL processes, and analytical models.
This is a remote, long-term contract role (via Upwork) exclusively for professionals residing in the USA. The candidate must be open to occasional short-term travel (e.g., 12 weeks) to client sites if required, although the position is primarily remote.
Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Planning
Define comprehensive test strategies and plans for data lakes, warehouses, and ETL pipelines.
Establish and document test cases, automation frameworks, and best practices for functional, regression, and performance testing.
Define entry/exit criteria, performance benchmarks, and data quality KPIs.
Develop anomaly detection and reconciliation techniques for large-scale datasets.
Test Execution & Automation
Lead test execution for data pipelines, transformations, and analytical model outputs.
Build and maintain automation scripts using Python, SQL, and relevant frameworks.
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation.
Support a distributed testing team, including mentoring and coordinating with offshore members.
Create scalable solutions for data comparison, anomaly detection, and reconciliation across large BigQuery datasets.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with data engineers, QA testers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather data quality requirements.
Lead triage and root cause analysis for data issues.
Communicate testing results, data quality metrics, and project status to leadership.
Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and align with DevOps on automation integration.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years in data quality, data warehouse, and ETL testing.
2+ years in a Lead role, driving strategy and team coordination.
Proficient in BigQuery, SQL, and Python for automated validation and scripting.
Experience with data testing frameworks, CI/CD tools, and cloud testing integrations.
Strong understanding of data lakes, data warehouses, ETL processes, and pipeline testing.
Excellent analytical and debugging skills for data discrepancy resolution.
Clear written and verbal communication; able to work effectively in remote cross-functional teams.
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience in healthcare data platforms (HIPAA compliance knowledge is a plus).
Familiarity with GCP services like Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Dataform.
Exposure to data observability tools and anomaly detection methods.
Experience with metadata management and data governance tools (e.g., Collibra Data Quality).
