Position Overview

As a Data Engineering Manager at arenaflex, you will lead a talented team of data professionals in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure that supports our game studios. You'll work alongside Data Scientists, Applied Scientists, and Quality Specialists to develop innovative approaches to data management that enhance game development workflows. This role offers exceptional flexibility with work-from-home options, allowing you to perform at your best regardless of location.

Key Responsibilities

As a leader within our data engineering organization, you will be responsible for:


Team Leadership and Mentorship: Guide other team members in building robust code to extract raw data, coach the team on techniques to improve data quality, and apply your deep expertise to ensure the right data is ingested across the pipeline. You'll mentor data engineers on best practices and help develop their technical capabilities.

Data Tool Development: Lead the development of data tools used to transform, manage, and access data. You'll provide guidance on writing and validating code to test the functionality and availability of data platforms, ensuring they remain robust and reliable under various load conditions.

Performance Monitoring Excellence: Direct the implementation of performance monitoring protocols across data pipelines. You'll train the team on building dashboards and collections to monitor pipeline health, and coach others on implementing solutions and self-healing processes that minimize vulnerabilities across multiple products.

Data Governance and Compliance: Help identify data governance needs, oversee the design of data models, and implement systems to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. You'll be responsible for data accessibility within your assigned pipelines, ensuring data integrity and security.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Prepare team members for meetings with appropriate stakeholders across teams and address concerns around data requirements by providing guidance on feature evaluation. You'll help others assess data costs, access, usage, use cases, dependencies across products, and availability for business or client scenarios related to at least one product.

Strategic Data Planning: Develop roadmaps for data infrastructure improvements that align with studio objectives. You'll evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance our data capabilities while maintaining cost-effectiveness.


Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:


A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Programming, Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 4+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work

OR a Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Programming, Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 3+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work

OR equivalent practical experience that demonstrates your capability to perform the essential functions of this role.

3+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable and robust cloud-based big data solutions

1+ year(s) of experience in data management, data stewardship, or a similar leadership role


Preferred Qualifications

We strongly prefer candidates who bring:


Experience working with gaming industry data pipelines and understanding the unique data challenges in game development

Proficiency in distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or similar technologies

Strong background in machine learning workflows and MLOps practices

Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) and their data services

Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques for presenting complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders

Experience in agile methodologies and cross-functional team collaboration

Understanding of game development pipelines and how data flows through various stages of production
