Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Customer Service Guide (Human Services Specialist 1) to join our team at the Oregon Department of Human Services. As a key member of our Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP) team, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Oregonians in need of support and resources. You will work collaboratively with a diverse team to provide specialized assistance to individuals and families seeking services, and contribute to a welcoming environment that promotes whole well-being.
Responsibilities:
Provide customer service and support to individuals and families seeking services, including food benefits, cash assistance, childcare assistance, and more.
Serve as the first point of contact for customers, either in-person, by phone, or through our online applicant portal.
Offer information and referrals to community resources, and assist with case status and other inquiries.
Work collaboratively with program staff to provide a safety net and promote family stability.
Contribute to a trauma-informed and culturally responsive work environment that values diversity and inclusivity.
Requirements:
Two years of experience in customer service or a related field, with a high volume of paperwork and people contact.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft programs, web browsers, and multiline telephone systems.
Ability to adapt communication style to explain complex information to diverse audiences.
Experience with multiple systems and databases, with the ability to elicit information from applicants and recipients.
