About the position
The Custodian - 3rd Shift position at Dartmouth College involves performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks under the supervision of the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor. This role is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of various college facilities, including offices, laboratories, and public areas. The position requires working during the night shift, with responsibilities that include cleaning, event setups, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for the college community.
Responsibilities
• Unlocks and locks assigned spaces; cleans, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs all hard surface floors.

• Cleans public restrooms and showers; scours, disinfects, and deodorizes toilet bowls and sinks.
,
• Empties office and common area trash cans; implements recycling procedures; removes trash inside and around the building.
,
• Performs major setup and breakdown for college events, including arranging tables and chairs as specified in work orders.
,
• Cleans light fixtures and replaces light bulbs using a step ladder as necessary.
,
• Sweeps dirt and leaves, shovels snow from walkways, and spreads sand on walkways at entrances.
,
• Sets traps for rodents and sprays buildings with chemicals for insect control.
,
• Keeps track of cleaning materials and equipment, notifying the Squad Leader when supplies are low or equipment needs repair.
Requirements
• 1-2 years of experience in custodial work.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
,
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment.
,
• Must be able to use a step-ladder for cleaning tasks.
,
• Knowledge of safe use of various cleaning chemicals and insect control substances.
,
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying objects.
