The Cost Accountant is responsible for providing financial and administrative support to the Vice President of Finance & Accounting and manage a reasonable system of internal controls. The Cost Accountant will review and develop processes and procedures to improve the company’s effectiveness and efficiency. They will analyze financial information to assist management in making sound policy decisions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Prepare consolidated Weekly Flash (Forecast) for the Company • Participate in Monthly Closing for the Plant and assist with preparing monthly journal entries • Assist in the development/revision (Annually & periodically as required) and implementation of new standard costs • Preparation of Financial Statements, financial analyses, and other reports • Review monthly Balance Sheet Account reconciliation • Assist in the annual budget planning process • Assist in preparing budget, analysis, and evaluation of monthly operational financial performance • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cost analysis on material, labor, and overhead costs • Monitor perpetual inventory trends for improving annual inventory turns • Work with Information Systems and Plant Operations to improve the quality and usefulness of cost data • Provide support for company improvement objectives, such as continuous improvement, manufacturing activities, inventory costing and management, cycle count accuracy, cost management, quality improvement, etc. • Assist with annual internal and external audits including planning, accumulating information, and preparing results to audit questions • Enhance and maintain internal controls • Supervise the performing of physical inventories and summarizing results, along with assisting in the RCA and implementing corrective actions. • Work with manufacturing to maintain the accuracy with quantities and cost integrity for the production inventories • Coordinate HR related financial information as required, including submission of data to the corporate payroll operations coupled with maintaining proper accrual analysis on payroll accounts such as vacation, medical insurance, etc. • Assist with continued enhancements with our Global Shop Solutions system for improving operational efficiencies and effectiveness of timely information to support improved profitability • Perform other duties as assigned Skills Basic Qualifications • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance • Proficient in management accounting, open to learning cost and inventory accounting and financial analysis • Ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in a manufacturing environment • Analytical and data driven • Has the ability to multi task in a complex, fast paced environment • Demonstrates a high customer service orientation • Has effective interpersonal / relationship building skills; strong team player • Demonstrates business acumen • Innovative problem solver • Effective communication skills • Results driven • Strong systems aptitude Preferred Knowledge and Skills • 1-3 years of experience, manufacturing preferred • ERP system experience is preferred – i.e. SAP, JD Edward, Oracle, etc. Working Conditions • Inside usual office environment • Variable workdays/hours • Some overtime required – during month end close, budget, physical inventory, etc. Physical and Mental Requirements • Ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar • Ability to learn software applications and processes quickly • Sitting • Reaching Performance Standards Required • Ability to support the business with financial reporting deadlines and accuracy Supervision given by: Vice President of Finance and Accounting Supervision given to: N/A Note: Employees may be asked to perform tasks other than those listed on the job description and will be expected to perform any reasonable task assigned by their supervisor.
