Copy Editor/Proofreader

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Copy Editor/Proofreader to join our editorial team in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of manuscripts before publication. You will work closely with editors, authors, and production teams to polish content and maintain our high editorial standards. Key Responsibilities • Copyedit manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and style consistency • Proofread typeset pages and digital files to catch errors before publication • Ensure adherence to The Chicago Manual of Style and Hachette house style guidelines • Verify factual accuracy and flag potential legal or sensitivity issues • Maintain consistency in character names, timelines, and plot details in fiction manuscripts • Review and correct formatting, including front and back matter • Collaborate with editors and authors to resolve queries and clarify content • Meet tight deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail • Track changes using Microsoft Word and work within editorial management systems Qualifications • Associated or Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or related field • 2+ years of professional copyediting and proofreading experience, preferably in book publishing • Expert knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) • Exceptional command of English grammar, usage, and punctuation • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Word track changes and editorial software • Experience with various genres including fiction, nonfiction, and illustrated books preferred Apply tot his job
