Communications Specialist (Part time CONTRACT – Remote)

Remote Full-time
Job Description

Employment Type: Freelance / Contract

About The Role

Our healthcare client is seeking a detail-oriented, execution-focused Communications Specialist to provide part-time internal communications support on a freelance basis. This role will focus on building, proofreading, and distributing internal content and newsletters, as well as maintaining a consistent presence across SCA Health’s internal communication channels.

Engagement Details
• Part-time freelance engagement, approximately 20 hours per week with the ability to flex up to 25 hours as needed.
• Contract duration: approximately 12–14 weeks, with potential for short extensions to support overlapping transitions or PTO coverage.
• Schedule must reliably support recurring production deadlines for weekly and bi-weekly newsletters.
• Role is focused on hands-on execution (not strategic leadership or management).

Key Responsibilities
• Proofread and test the weekly internal newsletter for accuracy, clarity, links, and layout.
• Proofread and test the bi-weekly Field Leader Digest newsletter prior to send.
• Build, publish, proofread, and test assigned articles within SharePoint.
• Develop and post Viva Engage content to promote SCA Connect articles and increase internal readership and engagement.
• Build, format, proofread, test, and distribute newsletters via Cerkl, ensuring consistency with brand and style guidelines.
• Draft internal content including articles, teammate profiles, and stories tied to key healthcare observances (e.g., awareness months, recognition campaigns).
• Conduct internal interviews with teammates and subject matter experts to gather information and translate it into clear, engaging content.
• Ensure all communications meet high standards for grammar, style, formatting, accessibility, and link functionality.
• Support communications team members with additional written and digital communication tasks and projects as needed.

Tools & Technology
• Cerkl – newsletter building, formatting, testing, and distribution.
• SharePoint – content creation, publishing, and updates for SCA Connect.
• Viva Engage – internal social posting and content amplification.
• Microsoft 365 – including Word, Outlook, Teams, and related tools for collaboration and drafting.

Schedule & Availability
• Approx. 20 hours per week, with flexibility to increase to 25 hours during heavier production periods.
• Days of the week are flexible but must align with internal newsletter production and review timelines.
• Must be available during core business hours in the Central Time zone for collaboration and reviews.

Candidate Requirements
• 3+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or closely related fields.
• Proven writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for internal audiences.
• Comfortable conducting internal interviews and turning notes into polished, engaging narratives.
• High attention to detail for proofreading, formatting, quality control, and link testing.
• Experience using Microsoft Office tools and at least one CMS or intranet platform.
• Able to provide written work samples that demonstrate internal communications capability.
• Located in, or able to reliably work in alignment with, the Central Time zone (preference) or Eastern Time.
• Prior experience in healthcare or a similarly regulated industry is a plus.

This freelance Communications Specialist role is ideal for a meticulous internal communications professional who enjoys hands-on execution. The specialist will own day-to-day newsletter production, content creation, proofreading, and digital posting across internal platforms, ensuring timely and accurate communication to teammates across the organization.
