Communications and Advocacy Intern - Denver, CO

Join AARP as a Communications and Advocacy Intern to support legislative advocacy and enhance social media presence.

Your Role:

Key responsibilities include:
• Work with advocacy staff and volunteers to plan and implement legislative grassroots advocacy tactics.
• Monitor legislative activities and research legislators’ community engagement.
• Enhance AARP’s social media presence by creating and posting content.
• Produce and distribute materials for legislators, media, members, and the public.
• Write and edit press releases, articles, and other communications.
• Research background information for communications needs.
• Interview volunteers, staff, community members, and legislators for articles.

About You:

Candidates should have:
• Enrollment in a degree program or continuing education.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Interest in aging, nonprofits, communications, and political issues.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours a week.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly rate:
• $18 for undergraduates
• $21 for graduate students
• $28 for Ph.D. candidates
• Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
