Position Overview We are seeking experienced and entry-level College Advisors to join our growing team as independent contractors. This remote position offers the opportunity to work with motivated students and families using our proven frameworks for college admissions success. Key Responsibilities Application Strategy & Planning • Develop comprehensive application strategies that maximize admission chances • Create realistic timelines and manage deadline adherence across all applications • Guide students through early application decisions with sound rationale • Build balanced college lists appropriate for student profiles and goals Essay Writing & Application Support • Help students develop compelling, authentic essays that strengthen applications • Provide appropriate level of guidance based on individual student needs • Ensure essays meet college-level standards while maintaining student voice • Support completion of all application components including activities lists and short answers • Review applications for quality and completeness before submission Family & Student Management • Maintain consistent communication with families throughout the application process • Provide expert guidance and reassurance during stressful periods • Coordinate effectively with school counselors and other stakeholders • Address challenges proactively to prevent crisis situations • Provide basic financial aid guidance as needed Administrative Excellence • Maintain detailed tracking systems for application requirements and deadlines • Document all student interactions and strategic decisions • Ensure compliance with professional standards and ethical guidelines • Participate in periodic team meetings and professional development as needed Required Qualifications Education & Experience • Master's degree required (Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field preferred) • College counseling or admissions experience strongly preferred (entry-level candidates with relevant education will be considered) • Demonstrated understanding of college application processes and requirements Technical Skills • Proficiency with Common Application, Coalition Application, and school-specific platforms • Experience with Naviance or similar college planning software • Strong technology skills for remote collaboration and communication • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Professional Competencies • Comprehensive understanding of college admissions processes and requirements • Experience with the full range of application components (essays, activities, interviews, etc.) • Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Cultural competency for working with diverse student populations • Crisis management and problem-solving capabilities • Basic understanding of financial aid processes (FAFSA, CSS Profile, merit aid) Preferred Qualifications • 3+ years of comprehensive college counseling experience • Experience with competitive college admissions (top 50 institutions) • Background in essay writing instruction or English education • Previous independent consulting or contract work experience Position Details • Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) • Schedule: Full-time or Part-time options available • Location: Remote (Eastern Time Zone strongly preferred) • Availability: Must accommodate student/family schedules including some evenings and weekends What We Offer • Autonomy to build meaningful relationships with students and families • Opportunity to join a growing organization with expansion potential • Access to proven frameworks and resources that enhance advisor effectiveness • Flexible scheduling and remote work environment • Support and consultation available as needed Application Process Please submit: • Resume highlighting relevant college counseling experience • Cover letter addressing your approach to college advising We are an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members.
