Coder (FT - Remote)

Our Coder supports Edgerton Hospital by performing the following duties: • Code, abstract, and enter all information from work queues in EPIC system. • Calculate APC's on all outpatient encounters. • Verify appropriate diagnosis and procedure for each encounter is provided and documented. Send coding query when needed. • Follow up on all payment denials. Send coding queries for additional documentation. • Ensure all recurring accounts are coded within 48 hours of hitting the work queue. • Send physicians coding queries for further documentation as needed. Follow up with physician to ensure documentation has been completed. • Acts as a resource person to hospital staff for coding and may provide education regarding coding changes/issues. • Assists with general office functions and other miscellaneous duties as directed. Requirements • Ability to code using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E&M coding systems and abstract records. • Familiar with APC's • Ability to understand the correlation between medical tests ordered and diagnoses needed to justify payment by third parties. • Knowledge of specific coding requirements for CAH. • Completion of HIM program or coding specialist program and at least one year coding experience preferred.
