General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada develops innovative products and solutions that enhance security and operational advantage. In this role, students will contribute to the design, development, and testing of complex software and embedded systems supporting defence operations, gaining hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and test software solutions according to design requirements and coding standards Assist in software integration and verification activities, including debugging and troubleshooting Document code, processes, and workflows, maintaining clear technical records Support automated testing and develop scripts or test tools where applicable Collaborate with engineers, systems engineers, and multidisciplinary teams across the organization Participate in team planning, code reviews, and iterative development activities Gain exposure to software development best practices and industry-standard tools and frameworks Skills Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical/scientific discipline Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team Enthusiastic, willing to learn, and takes ownership of assigned work It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations You must be eligible to work in Canada Experience with programming languages such as C#, Java, Kotlin, Python, or C++ Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development practices Familiarity with software testing frameworks and automated testing tools, including unit testing Experience with DevOps or CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform) Experience with AI tools such as OpenWebUI, Ollama, and Tika Experience with Android application development (e.g., Android Studio, Kotlin/Java, Gradle, mobile UI frameworks) Understanding of software development methodologies, such as Agile or iterative development Knowledge of distributed systems, databases, or networked applications, including familiarity with computer networking Experience with Make or related build systems Experience working in Linux environments, including command-line interaction and scripting in Bash or PowerShell Benefits Eligibility for future co-ops or full-time roles Flexible work hours and compressed workweek options Hybrid work model (where applicable) Networking opportunities across teams and disciplines Onsite amenities and social events (gym, bike storage, trivia, appreciation events, etc.) Corporate discounts Company Overview As one of Canada’s largest, most established defence and security technology companies, General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is a force in the business community, developing and utilizing the skills of Canadian suppliers, building Canada’s manufacturing base, and supporting research and development, while providing a flexible and innovation-driven workplace for over 1,200 employees across the country.
