Position Overview
Farmers Life is seeking a CMBS Trader / Securitized Credit Analyst with 3–5 years of experience to play a key role across trading, underwriting, and portfolio management. This individual will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, executing trades, and actively managing CMBS positions within a long-term insurance portfolio.
This is a hands-on role requiring both market execution skills and fundamental credit expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Source CMBS investment opportunities through broker/dealer relationships and primary market participation
Underwrite CMBS transactions, including detailed analysis of loan collateral, sponsorship, and deal structure
Perform cash flow modeling and scenario analysis using Intex, Trepp, or similar tools
Execute trades across CMBS sectors (conduit, SASB, CRE CLO, legacy)
Prepare comprehensive investment memos for internal approval, including relative value, risk assessment, and portfolio fit
Monitor and asset manage existing CMBS positions, including surveillance of collateral performance and credit trends
Identify relative value opportunities and make trade recommendations aligned with portfolio objectives
Partner with ALM, risk, and capital teams to ensure investments align with liability and regulatory considerations
Maintain and expand relationships with dealers, originators, and market participants
Provide ongoing market intelligence and portfolio reporting to senior management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Real Estate, or related field
3–5 years of experience in CMBS, structured credit, real estate finance, or related investment role
Demonstrated ability to underwrite commercial real estate and structured products
Experience sourcing deals and interacting with broker/dealers
Strong financial modeling and cash flow analysis skills
Proficiency with Excel; experience with Intex, Trepp, and Bloomberg preferred
Solid understanding of fixed income analytics and structured credit risk
Strong writing skills with experience preparing investment memos
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across trading, analysis, and portfolio management
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within an insurance company or asset manager
Familiarity with NAIC designations and capital treatment of structured products
CFA designation or progress toward completion
Programming experience (Python, SQL, VBA)
