Cloud Developer – AWS Modernization - Remote

About the position KBR is seeking a skilled Cloud Developer to join our team in modernizing mission-critical solutions for the USGS EROS Center. As a member of a collaborative engineering team, you will help migrate on-premises systems to AWS, utilizing both lift-and-shift and full modernization approaches. The role includes designing and implementing event-driven architectures, optimizing cloud workloads, and working closely with other developers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions using Agile methodologies. Note: This position is contingent upon contract award, customer approval, and funding availability. Eligibility Requirement: This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to contractual and security requirements. Responsibilities β€’ Contribute to the migration of on-premises infrastructure to AWS using both lift-and-shift and modernization strategies. β€’ Participate in the design and implementation of event-driven systems leveraging AWS-native services (e.g., Lambda, SNS, SQS, EventBridge). β€’ Develop and maintain automation tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure. β€’ Collaborate with solution architects, engineers, and other team members to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions. β€’ Support the design and optimization of CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline). β€’ Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK. β€’ Implement configuration management and automation using tools like Ansible. β€’ Troubleshoot and support cloud-based applications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment. β€’ Contribute to documentation and process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency. β€’ Identify and implement AWS cloud cost optimization strategies, incorporating FinOps principles. β€’ Participate in Agile teams, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, delivering incremental value through iterative development. Requirements β€’ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field. β€’ Minimum 6 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or software development, with a focus on AWS technologies. β€’ Hands-on experience with lift-and-shift migrations and event-driven system design in AWS. β€’ Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or AWS CloudFormation. β€’ Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet). β€’ Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar for automation. β€’ Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and AWS best practices. β€’ Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation. β€’ Demonstrated FinOps ability to reduce cloud spend through cost optimization strategies. β€’ Experience working in Agile development environments and applying Agile methodologies. β€’ Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment. β€’ Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical documentation. β€’ Three years of continuous U.S. residency for government security credential. β€’ Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility access. β€’ This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to contractual and security requirements. Nice-to-haves β€’ Associate, Professional, or Specialty certifications in AWS that are relevant to cloud development (e.g., AWS Certified Developer – Associate, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, AWS Certified Security – Specialty). β€’ Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices. β€’ Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures in AWS. β€’ Familiarity with government security credential requirements and ability to obtain necessary clearances.
