Cloud Broadcast Engineer
Location: Remote in US
About the Role
Monks is looking for a Cloud Broadcast Engineer to devise, test, and implement cloud broadcast solutions for live streaming and virtual events.
An engineer with a cross-functional background in broadcast engineering and cloud engineering, this team member will bring their expertise to Monks’ team and their cloud-based live streaming solutions. At its core, this team member will assist in the efforts to modernize, rethink, innovate, and develop ways to elevate the quality and reliability of cloud broadcast productions. This Cloud Broadcast Engineer will be tightly integrated with the other members of the Innovation team and join them in building out video, audio, networking, production, post-production, and related projects as necessitated by the project.
Responsibilities:

Devise, innovate, research, and test solutions based on the needs of each project
Engage in the discussions and building of the entire signal flow
Deploy AWS infrastructure to support the signal flow
Contribute to documentation related to overall best practices for each project and solution
Learn the operation of our cloud-based virtual production environment
Stay up to date with the latest broadcast software and cloud practices
You have a consistent DIR (Doing It Right) approach to life and production
You ask people when they say "4K, 60" if they mean "UHD, 59.94," but you're patient when people think the wifi is the internet
You are proactive about R&D, and unafraid to explore experimental technology
You are intellectually curious
You can be client-facing

About You
The essentials:

Hands-on experience in broadcast engineering and cloud infrastructure (non-software development focus).
Solid understanding of physical broadcast infrastructure and live production environments.
Expertise in AWS, with extensive experience in EC2.
Must have experience deploying VPCs and configuring them with EC2 instances as well as security groups, networking, and monitoring
Experience with tools and vendors including Grass Valley, Vizrt, Calrec, SSL, OBS, and vMix.
Deep familiarity with industry-standard protocols such as:

SRT, NDI, SDI, RTMP, and WebRTC.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Comfortable working in ambiguous and dynamic environments.
Strong analytical thinking with a proactive, R&D-driven mindset.
Eligible to pass FBI background checks for major events and IT security-sensitive projects.

Not a must, but a plus:

AWS Elemental experience
Experience with other cloud CSPs (GCP, Oracle/OCI)
Experience in asset management/cloud media pipeline optimization
Background at target companies: Vizrt, Grass Valley, Calrec, SSL, Netflix, BBC, CNN, major sports networks, cloud providers’ M&E teams
AWS certification
Experience in defining and formalizing industry standards
