Cloud API Platform Engineer (Apigee X & Google Cloud Platform)
Job Title: Cloud API Platform Engineer (Apigee X & Google Cloud Platform) Location: Remote Job Type: Contract Job Description: We are seeking a skilled Cloud API Platform Engineer to lead the setup and ongoing management of Apigee X, Google's SaaS API platform, within our Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) environment. The ideal candidate will have proven experience deploying Apigee X using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), expertise in automation of API proxy development /deployment/proxy-code promotion and deep familiarity with Google Cloud Platform networking and security components. Key Responsibilities: • Design, deploy, and manage Apigee X environments using Terraform and Google Cloud Platform best practices. • Integrate Apigee X with Google Cloud Platform load balancers, Managed Instance Groups (MIG), and Private Service Connect (PSC) for secure and scalable northbound proxying. • Configure and maintain southbound connectivity from Apigee X to secure web proxies within Google Cloud Platform. • Develop and maintain API proxies in Apigee X, applying appropriate policies for security, traffic management, and transformation. • Build and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines for proxy build, deployment, and promotion across multiple environments. • Collaborate with cloud architects, security teams, and developers to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performance API delivery. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship on Apigee X and Google Cloud Platform integration topics. • Developers to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performance API delivery. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship on Apigee X and Google Cloud Platform integration topics. • Establish robust logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions for the API platform, ensuring platform health, performance, and compliance with operational standards (with help of SPLUNK, Dynatrace, Google Cloud Platform Cloud logging/monitoring) Required Qualifications: • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee X (design, proxy development, policy configuration, deployment). • Strong proficiency in Terraform for cloud resource provisioning and automation. • Demonstrated experience developing API proxies and applying Apigee X policies (security, mediation, traffic management). • In-depth knowledge of Google Cloud Platform networking (Load Balancers, MIG, PSC, secure web proxies). • Experience building automated pipelines for proxy lifecycle management (build, deploy, promote). • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. Preferred Qualifications: • Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect, Apigee Certified API Engineer). • Experience with large-scale enterprise API platforms and security controls. • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub workflows, Azure DevOps).
