Civil Engineering Specialist - Road Design

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Civil Engineering Specialist in their Highways Bureau. This role involves assembling road plans packages, conducting engineering analysis, overseeing projects, and determining solutions based on engineering guidelines. Responsibilities Participate in assembling road plans packages for highway projects Create proposals and evaluations of alternates Perform computations of geometric data and estimation of plan quantities Create design models and assemble plan sheets Incorporate recommendations from other technical specialists Compose specifications needed to build highways on the Secondary, Primary, and Interstate Highway systems of the State of Montana Conduct in-depth engineering and analysis Administer contracts and oversee projects and project design May serve as a lead worker Skills Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field For Civil Engineering Specialist 2: 6 months to 2 years of related work experience For Civil Engineering Specialist 3: 2 to 4 years related work experience Proof of passage of the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE) for Civil Engineering Specialist 2 and 3 Engineering Intern Certification (EIT) or licensedProfessional Engineer for Civil Engineering Specialist 3 Develops sufficient engineering knowledge, skill, and judgment in a specific practice area to perform the routine engineering, review, testing, inspection, and documentation tasks in the assigned area Broad knowledge of engineering practices and principles and construction methods, processes and procedures, computer-assisted drafting and survey software, and engineering techniques for projects of moderate complexity Journey level knowledge of federal guidelines and procedures regarding engineering and construction Skills in effective oral and written communication to assist with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignment or meetings A resume detailing your qualifications and work history Benefits Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Access to Montana Health Centers, low-bolthires clinics for state employees and their families State Retirement plan and additional savings opportunities (deferred compensation) Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays Employees in this position receive overtime compensation or compensatory time for all time in a pay status over 40 hours in a workweek Eligibility for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Benefits apply on first day of employment Relocation assistance may be offered to the successful candidate at the time of offer Company Overview State of Montana has a desire to cultivate a workforce consistently able to respond to challenges facing Montana.It was founded in 1889, and is headquartered in Helena, Montana, USA, with a workforce of 5001-10000 employees.
