Description
Survey Party ChiefDirect and supervise the survey crew to make exact measurements and determine site layout to support alldisciplines with a quality layout for unit installation. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation,location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering,construction, and other purposes.PRINCIPAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES⢠Be able to perform all of the principal duties and accountabilities of craft workers under his/her supervision.⢠Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.⢠Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or currentinstallations.⢠Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assumeliability for work performed.⢠Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.⢠Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations ofgeomorphic and topographic features.⢠Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites,transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).⢠Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or landfeatures.⢠Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned withprojects.⢠Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.⢠Train Rodman, and helpers, and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps.⢠Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.⢠Lead and support all safety related processes and programs as requested. Engage with your work team to ensurewe achieve zero injuries. No job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised.Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional. If needed, use your stopwork authority until the issue is resolved.⢠Have an understanding of the scheduling, material control and unit man-hour performance reporting. Becomefamiliar with the Field Progress Management System (FPMS).⢠Be able to create and execute a one week schedule.⢠Be able to set and execute crew goals based on the project unit rates.⢠Review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.⢠Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor. Participate in investigation process as needed. Reviewaccidents and the causes with employees.⢠Complete, and sign off on daily safety planning in the appropriate format. Identify safety hazards youor other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.Assure all crew members understand, participate, and sign all pre-job safety planning tools at start and end ofshift.⢠Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell ofsmoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).⢠Understand, support, implement, and follow lockout/tag out procedures. Attend site specific training and assureyou follow all procedures as out lined in training.⢠Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.⢠Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers andfractions rapidly and accurately.⢠Listen to other employees and supervisor's suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns andrecommendations, evaluate each and then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.Consult with supervisor and if needed HR on any issues.⢠Coordinate and communicate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job. As requested by projectsupervision manage other crafts when needed.⢠Train/teach safety practices, policies and procedures related to an employee's assigned tasks.⢠Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned.⢠Plan and communicate with supervisor to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment areavailable.⢠Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and the related parts of the project. Develop a thoroughunderstanding of the project plans, specifications and schedule as they relate to that portion of the work assigned.⢠Conduct tool box meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans and schedules to the crews.⢠Participate in quantity report collection as needed on a daily/weekly basis.⢠Assure employees produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.⢠Read and understand plans and specifications, including one line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladderdiagrams, P&IDâs, and loop diagrams. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.⢠With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans andspecifications. Assure crew plans, lay-out, diagram, install and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus andcontrol equipment in accordance with those plans and specifications.⢠Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the, contract plans, specifications, and industry standards. Ensurethat correct construction procedures are followed during installation. Point out deficiencies, explain them, andtake corrective action needed.⢠Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation,or replacement.⢠Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or thatmay be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.⢠Ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and DailyEquipment Inspections are completed for equipment being used.⢠Complete performance reviews of craft workers according to Hourly Performance Assessment (HPA)Guidelines. Ensure that subordinates are qualified to perform their work as it relates to their level.⢠Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies⢠Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements
RequirementsAt least 4 years of experience working in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities. Musthave working knowledge of using mathematics to solve problems, verify mathematical calculations, gather physicalsurvey data, document technical design details, analyze physical, survey, or geographic data, survey land to measureor determine features, create maps, determine operational criteria or specifications, calibrate scientific or technicalequipment, coordinate activities with suppliers, contractors, clients, or other departments or disciplines, directsurveying activities, calculate geographic positions from survey data. Must be at least 18 years of age.All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may includeany/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, incompliance with any applicable laws and regulations.PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONSOne or more of the following certifications:NCCER Site LayoutNCCER Fundamentals of Crew LeadershipTRAINING CERTIFICATESNCCER Site LayoutWORK CONDITIONS⢠Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.⢠Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hearnaturally or with correction.⢠Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.⢠Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.⢠Requires repetitive movement.⢠Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.⢠Work up to a 10-12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outsideconditions.WORK ENVIRONMENT⢠Typical construction site environmentâ˘Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure toinclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.⢠Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditionsâ˘Work around hazardous equipment.
