Business Analytics Engineer

The Business Analytics Engineer will join M13’s Propulsion Team within the Technology Group, whose mission is to build the preeminent AI-driven platform for investing and portfolio management.Reporting to the Technology Director, this highly cross-functional role is both strategic and hands-on. The Business Analytics Engineer will architect and implement technical solutions, maintain internal systems, and enhance the data backbone that powers the firm’s operating platforms. Just as importantly, they will collaborate closely with teams across the firm to understand workflows and dependencies, identify opportunities for optimization, and contribute to cross-functional planning and research efforts.We’re looking for a generalist with strong technical ability, sound business judgment, and a knack for identifying high-leverage improvements to internal processes. This role is not a pure coding position; success will require a balance of technical fluency and business acumen.What You’ll Bring to the RoleTechnical ExpertiseExperience designing and maintaining SQL and NoSQL databasesAbility to implement business logic at both the application and database levelsProven experience building and maintaining custom ETL and reverse ETL pipelinesProficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred) to support data engineering, transformation, and analytics workflowsFamiliarity with foundational model APIs to support intelligent internal toolingExperience researching, evaluating, and contributing to open-source projects, especially in the AI/ML spaceComfort working with and extending the functionality of tools in M13’s tech stack, including Salesforce, Notion, and AsanaBusiness and Analytical CapabilitiesStrong analytical mindset and experience translating business requirements into technical implementations across SaaS platformsHands-on experience with building and maintaining data pipelines, data models, and governance processesExperience in analytics engineering, data normalization and transformation, and supporting data visualization initiativesAbility to enable self-service access to data and insights by designing user-friendly interfaces, clear data models, and easy-to-use toolsTrack record of working cross-functionally to deliver scalable solutions to non-technical stakeholdersInterest in staying current with technical trends to bring best practices into M13 and its portfolioCultural and Strategic FitPassion for startups, venture capital, and innovation ecosystemsThoughtful communicator who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environmentsNaturally curious, proactive, and energized by solving complex problemsWhat You’ll Be DoingParticipating in the development and maintenance of M13’s internal reporting dashboards and tools that provide business stakeholders with timely, self-service access to key informationEvaluating and implementing internal tools to improve productivity, workflow clarity, and visibilitySupporting the design and delivery of internal tooling powered by foundational models, data enrichment, and AI agents—especially tools that extract, parse, and reason over unstructured dataConfiguring internal systems to align with cross-functional team workflowsCollaborating with stakeholders to understand their processes and data requirements, delivering robust solutions while ensuring a consistent architecture based on unified taxonomies and single sources of truthPromoting a self-service culture through thoughtful architecture, data design, and documentationAdvising on compliance and security best practices as they relate to internal data and system usageWhat’s in it for you:One Team, One Dream: A chance to work alongside world-class VC talent in a collaborative and developmentally-focused culture that is respectful, inclusive, diverse, and inspiring.
