Job Description*This position is open to permanent Bookkeepers.*The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.The Payroll Section is responsible for processing payroll for all civilian and uniformed members of the service for the NYPD. The Payroll Section is seeking a Bookkeeper who will perform professional accounting work and will be responsible for the following:
- Onboarding of all newly hired Police Officers in the NYCAPS system
- Processes all working chart change adjustments for Uniformed Members of the Service
- Runs CHRMS Ad-hoc reports to ensure all new hires are processed accurately and correctly
- Calculates and processes all Neighborhood Policing differentialsHOURS/SHIFT:
Monday - Friday; Flex Time with 1 day a week remote workWORK LOCATION:

Please indicate in your cover letter that you would like to be considered for the position under the 55-a program.BOOKKEEPER - 40526Qualifications(1) Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including 6 credits in accounting; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; or
(3) A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in "2" above on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience as described in "2" above.
