Biotechnology Prosecution Assistant

The Biotechnology Prosecution Assistant supports a patent prosecution team by assisting with U.S. and foreign patent matters, managing docketing, and collaborating with legal professionals to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality client service.ResponsibilitiesAssist with workflow for U.S. and foreign patent filings, including reviewing foreign associate communications, coordinating formalities, tracking documents, ordering certified copies, and preparing documents for legalizationSupport patent prosecution activities, including USPTO e-filings and preparation of Information Disclosure Statements (IDS) by locating and uploading references to IPDAS and USPTO systemsAnalyze, organize, and manage polynucleotide and amino acid sequence information; prepare sequence listings and respond to sequence listing requestsPrepare and review correspondence with foreign associates and clients regarding applications, filing requirements, and prosecution updates to ensure accuracy and timelinessAssist with maintaining patent dockets, tracking deadlines, providing data collection, reporting, and general support to the patent prosecution teamManage administrative tasks including mail processing, courier packages, expense reports, check requests, invoice processing, copying, scanning, labeling, and document organization to support day-to-day operationsWork closely with paralegals, attorneys, and support staff to ensure efficient workflow, strong communication, and high-quality client serviceSkillsBachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or an equivalent biological science requiredPatent prosecution experience or training within a law firm setting preferredFamiliarity with electronic research tools and patent prosecution filing systemsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational skillsEffective verbal and written communication skills with individuals at all levelsAbility to maintain high accuracy and low error ratesAdaptability and flexibility in job responsibilities based on strategic goalsAbility to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and use discretionProfessional demeanor that effectively represents the firmInitiative and accountability for projectsAbility to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and meet deadlinesFlexibility to work before or after normal hours as necessary to meet job demandsPatent prosecution experience or training within a law firm setting preferredBenefitsCompetitive salary, overall compensation and 401(k)Hybrid Remote Work Policy (3 Days In Office, 2 Days Remote)In-house and external learning and development opportunitiesCareer Coaching ServicesGenerous health insurance, mental health and well-being benefitsCompany OverviewMarshall, Gerstein & Borun is a legal services company specializing in IP litigation and transaction services.
