The Benefits Verification Specialist is responsible for contacting insurance companies to verify patient coverage. The BV Specialist ensures insurance coverage by telephone, and insurance portals resolve any issues with coverage by phone and escalate complicated matters to a supervisor.
Essential Functions:
Verify insurance eligibility for ABA Coverage for upcoming appointments by utilizing the online websites or contacting the carriers directly.
Review patient deductibles and copays and enter them into the billing system and spreadsheets provided to the front-end department at all locations.
Coordinate with the front-end regarding scheduling errors.
Assist front-end and call center staff in understanding carrier websites and verification of eligibility.
Enter insurance referrals as needed.
Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
Works in conjunction with the reception to ensure clean billing.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Participates in educational activities and attends monthly staff meetings.
Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Assists in developing and communicating SOP for critical areas to improve accuracy and understanding of processes. Review patient deductible
Communicates to team lead any issues or concerns related to charging/edit/denial trends
Maintains flexibility regarding schedule changes
All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Minimum High School diploma or GED (required).
AA Degree or higher preferred
+ 3 years of previous experience preferred
Excellent computer skills - M.S. Office (Word/Excel)
Ability to build rapport quickly to resolve customer questions and needs
Language Proficiency: English required Spanish bilingual a plus
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance
