Behaviour Support Practitioner

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Behaviour Support Practitioner (BSP) is required to evaluate, develop and deliver evidence-based support plans within a complex support space. The BSP will ensure individual plans reflect our NDIS participants' goals, interests and promotes their quality of life. Whilst doing so you will also build the knowledge, capacity and strengths of all those who are important to the participant and their support network. As a member of the Positive Behaviour Support team, the BSP will provide daily mentoring and support to a team of Behaviour Support Practitioner (BSP) whilst advocating and implementing Butter Fish Services (BFS) values. Working within the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework, the role supports the individual professional development and client service delivery.
Key responsibilities:
· Assist individuals and their families to identify their needs through assessment and person-centred planning to develop meaningful goals and practical strategies to support people in their home and community
· Develop Behaviour Support Plans utilising a positive behaviour support framework with a commitment to eliminate restrictive practices
· Work collaboratively within a small cohesive team environment
· Develop Functional Behavioural Assessments and Behaviour Analysis Support Plans
· Provide direct behavioural interventions in individual and group sessions after assessment and diagnosis
· Provide training, support, guidance and supervision of Behaviour Support Practitioners/Behaviour Therapists
· Use behavioural, psychological and evidence-based theories to develop and implement program designs and interventions
· Develop and maintain professional relationships with all key stakeholders
· Adhere to NDIS quality and safeguard commission requirements
· Assist participants and families to identify participant needs through assessment and individual planning
· Develop meaningful goals and practical strategies to meet goals in the home and community
· Undertake risk assessments and behavioural assessments to identify behavioural functions and triggers, and support the development of positive behaviour support and capacity building strategies
· Within specified timeframes, oversee and contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individually tailored Behaviour Support Plans for clients in partnership with informal and formal supports
· Lead development of Interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans in line with NDIS requirements
· Provide training and support to informal and formal support networks of clients who will implement positive behavioural support strategies outlined in the Behaviour Support Plan
· Reviewing Positive Behaviour Support Plans to ensure they are of good quality and strategies are efficacious
· Participating in research to assist in building the evidence base for our plans with the view of publication in peer reviewed journals
· Work in a multi-disciplinary model with a range of allied health professionals to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supports
· Plan and evaluate behaviour support/s relating to the participants needs in line with relevant legislative and ethical requirements
· Monitor and report on participant progress towards NDIS goals and therapeutic impacts of behaviour strategies
· Work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, staff and external professionals by writing reports, making recommendations, writing and updating Behavioural Support Plans, Reporting Restrictive Practices and providing therapeutic care to participants as needed and/or requested
· Support mandatory reporting obligations with external regulators, focusing on the development of positive working relationships with all external stakeholders
· Undertake administrative tasks necessary for the role including maintaining appropriate documents and systems to safeguard the wellbeing of participants supported
· Actively promote BFS values in everyday work and demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement
Competencies and Experience required:
· Knowledge of current, evidence-based practices and relevant policies relating to the provision of behaviour support.
· Experience developing and implementing interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans
· An ability to communicate and appropriately respond to needs of people of all abilities and cultural backgrounds
· Work within a client centric approach while maintaining a positive mindset
· An ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and connect with other team members using multiple technology interfaces.
· An ability to provide a service based on a clients NDIS goals and funding allocation
· Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport throughout the Butter Fish Services community.
· Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence
· Ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays
Qualifications required:
· Bachelors degree or postgraduate qualifications related to Positive Behaviour Support
e.g., Psychology, Social Work or any other relevant discipline.
· Registered with the NDIS Quality & Safeguarding Commission as a PBS Practitioner
· Demonstrated and effective time management skills including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities set in a fast-paced environment
· Demonstrated experience working with people with complex needs and challenging behaviours
· Demonstrated experience in developing & delivering positive behaviour support plans & training to staff and other key stakeholders
· A compassionate and supportive demeanour
· A national police clearance and working with children check (or the ability to obtain one)
· High level of oral and written communication skills including the demonstrated ability to prepare and finalise technical reports
· Compliance checks including the NDIS Workers Screening Check, National Criminal History Check and any relevant State-issued WWCC/WWVP cards
· COVID19 Vaccination Digital Certificate, inclusive of mandated booster vaccinations as directed by State Government and NDIS mandates
· Valid Australian Driver Licence
