Associate Director, Software Engineering – Data & Platform Modernization

Remote Full-time
About the position

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for driving the modernization of DTCC’s Credit Risk applications, including the transformation of a legacy, Oracle‑centric platform into a modern, cloud‑native solution built on Snowflake.

In this role, you will lead a cross‑functional team of developers and testers while also contributing directly through hands-on design and development. You will play a critical role in re‑architecting data models, externalizing business logic into Python‑based services, and delivering a configurable, resilient Credit Risk platform designed to meet evolving regulatory, audit, and business requirements.

The resulting platform will support critical counterparty onboarding, monitoring, and regulatory reporting capabilities across the organization. This role requires a strong balance of technical depth, execution mindset, and leadership presence in a risk‑ and audit‑sensitive environment.

Responsibilities
• Lead the end‑to‑end modernization of Credit Risk applications, transitioning legacy functionality from Oracle to Snowflake.
• Drive the extraction of business logic from database‑centric implementations into Python‑based application services.
• Design and implement well‑modeled, flexible Snowflake tables that support configuration‑driven behavior and future change.
• Reduce tight coupling with upstream and downstream systems to improve maintainability, scalability, and adaptability.
• Identify and remediate auditing, control, and resiliency gaps in the legacy architecture.
• Ensure the modernized application meets contemporary standards for resiliency, observability, and operational readiness.
• Serve as the technical authority for Snowflake, Python, and data‑driven application design within the Credit Risk domain.
• Contribute directly through hands‑on development, design reviews, and complex problem‑solving.
• Define and evolve the target‑state architecture for the Credit Risk platform with future regulatory and business change in mind.
• Provide architectural guidance across AWS cloud environments and OpenShift‑based container platforms.
• Partner closely with data, application, infrastructure, and risk stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
• Lead a cross‑functional team of 4–5 developers and testers, setting direction and driving execution.
• Hold team members accountable for delivery, quality, and commitments, ensuring outcomes align with expectations.
• Foster a culture of engineering rigor, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Balance collaboration with decisiveness, ensuring progress in a complex and highly regulated environment.
• Demonstrates a strong leadership presence, with the ability to set direction, make informed decisions, and drive outcomes.
• Exhibits sound judgment and comfort operating in risk‑ and audit‑sensitive environments.
• Communicates clearly and confidently with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Influences effectively without direct authority, operating successfully in a matrixed organization.
• Brings an ownership mindset with a strong bias toward execution and results.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or platform modernization roles.
• Proven experience acting as a technical lead, principal engineer, or senior hands‑on leader guiding teams through complex delivery.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Snowflake, including Snowpark, data modeling, performance optimization, and large‑scale data transformations.
• Proficiency in Python for implementing business logic and data processing services.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, with Oracle experience preferred in modernization or migration contexts.
• Deep expertise in data modeling and database modernization, particularly in Snowflake‑based architectures.
• Strong understanding of cloud‑native application design and distributed systems.
• Experience designing systems that meet security, regulatory, audit, and control expectations.
• Ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into clear technical solutions.
• Strong collaboration skills across engineering, risk, and business teams.
• Comfort working in modernization efforts where legacy constraints and future goals must be balanced.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Experience deploying applications on OpenShift or similar container platforms.
• Java or Angular experience.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Relevant certifications (Snowflake, AWS, OpenShift).

Benefits
• Competitive compensation, including base pay and annual incentive
• Comprehensive health and life insurance and well-being benefits, based on location
• Pension / Retirement benefits
• Paid Time Off and Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
• DTCC offers a flexible/hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a third day unique to each team or employee).
