Position Title: Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Job Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: We seek enthusiastic and innovative candidates who are strongly committed to contemporary design education and foundational liberal arts study. Your portfolio of work should provide clear examples at the intersection of design, research, and teaching. Teaching responsibilities include integration of design knowledge and design methods in contemporary society and other emerging design technologies or topics. Candidates should have professional experience and studio research in one or more areas based on graphic design education and practices: foundations, digital fabrication/prototyping, advanced typography, web design, motion design, animation, illustration, editorial publication, brand identity, packaging, and interactive media. Candidates with relevant years of experience may be considered for an Associate status. Extensive knowledge and proficiency of industry standard applications include: Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Dreamweaver, and Express), CapCut, Figma, and Klaviyo. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a robust collaborative research agenda ideally connected with one or more programs across the university. The person in this position will be thoroughly familiar with both the curriculum and career requirements in the fields of Graphic Design and Digital Media Studies. You will provide leadership in curriculum planning to adequately prepare students for the best opportunities in a rapidly changing professional environment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to teaching and mentoring students. Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills: A terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or equivalent) in Graphic Design, Digital Media Studies or a closely related field. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. Evidence of working professionally as a graphic designer/content creator, or equivalent (5+ years). A strong portfolio of creative work in graphic design with and emphasis in one or more areas: typography, web design, motion/animation, editorial publication, brand identity, interactive media, and an ability to develop and teach a variety of courses within the Graphic Design curriculum. Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration across the university and within the greater community. Clear examples of student-centered teaching that incorporate contemporary practices and utilize multiple modes of delivery in person and online. Special consideration for candidates who have a passionate desire for foundational studies in art and design and a commitment to working within a liberal arts context. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Salary Range: $57,000-$62,000 (compensation depending on experience, education, and qualifications) Employee Benefits: This is a full-time position with full benefits and annual, holiday and sick leave.
