Assistant or Associate Learning Designer - Gies College of Business

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking an Assistant or Associate Learning Designer to join their Gies College of Business. The role involves collaborating with faculty to design high-quality learning experiences and manage course development and maintenance, utilizing knowledge of learning and cognitive science.ResponsibilitiesPerform term-based course maintenance and updates in consultation with faculty members and subject matter experts, applying evidence-based pedagogy and accessibility practices while following documented proceduresFacilitate the targeted enhancement of courses, including adjustments to assessments, learning materials, and course settings in consultation with faculty members and subject matter experts and in accordance with documented proceduresAssist and support in the documentation and resolution of support requests from students, faculty, and staff as needed during course design and deliveryApply project management skills and best practices to coordinate updates and reviews of courses in advance of each term launchCollect, document, and review student feedback, instructor feedback, program data, and other data analytics to inform recommendations on upcoming course revisions and enhancementsProvide evidence-based pedagogical and accessibility guidance to faculty and staff in alignment with instructional design theories, universal design principles, and practical guidance on teaching and learning innovationsResearch use data to make recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources, and instructional technologiesConsult with faculty on effective use of learning management systems, instructional technologies, multimedia tools, and approved software platforms to enhance teaching and learning; advocate for evidence-based adoption to improve learner engagement and outcomesDevelop and curate guides, resources, and support documentation to aid faculty in the design and delivery of their courses, helping build up the repository of articles in the Teaching & Learning unit's knowledge baseSupport, in consultation with faculty members, subject matter experts, and Teaching & Learning staff and in accordance with documented procedures, the design of new course offerings. Apply evidence-based pedagogical and accessibility practices to develop learning outcomes, assessment strategies, media scripts, and learning activities in consultation with faculty and subject matter experts and in accordance with documented proceduresSupport, in consultation with faculty members, subject matter experts, Teaching & Learning staff and in accordance with documented procedures, the redesign of existing courses, including substantial revisions to course media or assessmentsPrototype and build instructional materials in appropriate formats using the unit's approved learning management systems, platforms, technologies, and standardsApply project management skills and best practices to facilitate course development and redesign projects on a schedule that follows established quality standardsPlan and follow course development timelines and effectively communicate expectations to faculty members and members of the project teamCollaborate with other Teaching & Learning staff - including learning designers, accessibility specialists, digital media professionals, course support staff, and student employees - to conduct tasks associated with course design, development, and deliveryFacilitate course development meetings, capture key insights and action items, and produce detailed reports to inform instructional design decisions and project planningFacilitate and contribute to Teaching & Learning unit and Learning Design sub-unit projects and initiatives in support of the unit's strategic planServe on standing and/or special committees tasked with administrative functions, new staff hires, and ongoing initiatives for the Teaching & Learning unitApply best practices to inform improvements to internal documentation and development of workflowsApply project management skills and best practices to facilitate a collaborative and productive environment with stakeholders on strategic project teams and committeesContribute to innovation initiatives piloting new technologies, pedagogical strategies, support models, and operational workflows, documenting and sharing findings with the T&L unitParticipate in professional developmentOther duties as assignedSkillsMaster's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy AND Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teachingBaccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities AND Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teachingKnowledge of assessment and learning activity designKnowledge of pedagogy and learning scienceOrganizational skillsAbility to participate in a teamAbility to participate in large, complex projectsAbility to apply standards and follow documented proceduresAbility to communicate and build relationshipsBachelor's/Master's degree from an accredited institution in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, instructional systems, education, or a closely related fieldExperience with instructional design, technology for teaching, and/or teachingTwo years of work experience in the field of course development by the time of hire.
