Millard West High School is seeking a passionate and committed Assistant Boys Basketball Coach to support the varsity and sub-varsity basketball programs. This part-time, seasonal coaching position offers an exciting opportunity to mentor student-athletes, build competitive teams, and contribute to a respected athletics program within Millard Public Schools.
Job Description
The Assistant Coach will work under the direction of the Head Basketball Coach to assist with planning, organizing, and supervising practices and games. Responsibilities include helping develop athletes’ basketball skills, promoting teamwork, managing game-day operations, and upholding the athletic department’s standards of sportsmanship, discipline, and academic support.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required
Coaching experience in basketball (high school level preferred)
Knowledge of basketball strategy, rules, and player development
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to collaborate with students, staff, and parents
Must meet district coaching certification and background requirements
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Responsibilities
Assist with practices, drills, and game preparation
Mentor student-athletes on sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth
Provide feedback on skills development and performance
Maintain equipment and ensure safety standards are met
Support athletes’ academic achievement and conduct expectations
Help coordinate transportation, schedules, and team communications
Represent the program positively at all events and functions
