Arts Instructor Opportunity in Chicago, IL - Empowering High School Teens through Creative Expression
Join our team at After School Matters, a renowned nonprofit organization, and inspire the next generation of artists and leaders! We are seeking passionate and experienced Arts Instructors to teach and mentor high school teens in various art forms, including performing arts, visual arts, and culinary arts. As an Arts Instructor, you will play a vital role in shaping the creative minds of our students, helping them develop essential skills, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
After School Matters is a Chicago-based organization that provides after-school and summer programs to nearly 19,000 high school teens annually. Our programs are designed to help teens explore their talents, gain critical skills, and prepare for success in college and beyond. Key Responsibilities:
Teach and mentor high school teens in various art forms, including performing arts, visual arts, and culinary arts
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, activities, and projects that promote creative expression and skill-building
Provide supervision and guidance during program sessions, field trips, and events
Maintain accurate records, including attendance, progress reports, and evaluation surveys
Collaborate with program staff, parents, and community partners to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant content area (preferred) or high school diploma/GED required
Experience working in a field relevant to the content area, with a focus on teaching and mentoring teenagers
Familiarity with Chicago neighborhoods and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances
