We operate primarily remote, with key offices in Bogotá and Mexico City.RequirementsRole SummaryWe are looking for an AI Lead to define how artificial intelligence shapes our products and the way we work. This is a technical leadership role for someone who moves fast, builds things that actually work in production, and knows when to reach for a foundation model versus when to build from scratch. You'll set the direction for AI at Platzi from the architecture of our core systems to how we evaluate, ship, and improve models that reach millions of learners. You won't just advise. You'll build.What You'll DoWhat You'll DoDefine and own Platzi's AI roadmap from infrastructure and tooling to features that directly impact the learner experienceDesign, develop, and deploy machine learning models, LLM-powered features, and AI-driven pipelines at production scaleTranslate ambiguous product and business needs into concrete technical solutions, working closely with Product, Engineering, and Data teamsEvaluate, prototype, and integrate emerging AI technologies including foundation models, RAG architectures, and agentic frameworks with a bias toward what ships over what's theoretically elegantEstablish engineering practices for model evaluation, monitoring, responsible AI use, and MLOps across the organizationMentor engineers and grow a team with strong technical judgment and a culture of rapid, deliberate experimentationStay ahead of the AI research landscape and identify what's worth applying to real-world problems today not in 18 monthsCommunicate AI strategy and technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including leadership and external partnersQualifications7+ years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, or related fields, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or staff-level roleDeep hands-on expertise in modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX) and the LLM ecosystem — fine-tuning, RAG, prompt engineering, vector databases, and agentic frameworksProven track record of building and deploying AI/ML systems in production environments at scale, not just proof of conceptsStrong understanding of NLP, deep learning architectures, and retrieval-augmented generationExperience designing MLOps pipelines: model versioning, A/B testing, monitoring, and retraining workflowsAbility to lead and grow technical teams without defaulting to process overhead — you align people through clarity and shared technical judgmentStrong communication skills; you can explain a model's tradeoffs to an engineer and its business impact to a CEO in the same afternoonNice to have: experience applying AI in education, content generation, or personalization systems; open-source contributions or published researchBenefitsCompensation & Benefits This is a remote position open to candidates based in California or Georgia (Atlanta area). In accordance with California's Pay Transparency Law (SB 1162, as amended by SB 642), the good-faith estimated base salary range for this role upon hire is $170,000–$190,000 annually, regardless of work location. Platzi does not inquire about or consider prior salary history in compensation decisions.
