Art on the Block NYC internshipPart time, in person (16-20 hours per week)June 1- August 14, 2026Art on the Block NYC was established with the dual purpose of making art more accessible to the public and offering practicing artists a venue to create and display their artwork. Art on the Block NYC offers artists a short-term residency in a NYC storefront, during which they will transform the space into their studio, exhibition space, and public programming venue. The artist will be on-site working during the entire residency (during business hours) so that community members can walk in and engage with their process. Furthermore, the artist facilitates free art-making programs for youth, families, and adults. Art on the Block NYC is hiring a summer intern to provide administrative and logistical support in running a small non profit, while receiving specialized training in art/museum education. Programming/Education InternSupport Program Coordinator in handling logistics for running a small nonprofit including ordering supplies and event registrationWork with residency artist, Program Coordinator and Executive Director in development of youth, family and adult programming during residencies on site in storefront spaceSupport artist in residence in facilitating programming for all audiencesRequirementsWorking toward a BA/BFA in art, art history, education, and/or related field at an accredited university or collegeExcellent organizational skills; attention to detail; self-starterFlexibility in terms of working with different art forms and artistic techniquesAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentPosition InformationThis position requires 2 days per week in person at the Art on the Block NYC space, including availability for alternating Saturday gallery sitting shiftsInternship dates and work hours are to be finalized upon hire through discussion with Program Coordinator and the Executive DirectorThis is an unpaid/for credit positionProfessional Development This internship will provide a student the opportunity to gain skills in public communication, program development, and arts administration. The Executive Director will serve as a mentor to the intern -- offering guidance and support in skill development in these areas. The intern will have the chance to play an integral role in a start-up nonprofit – participating in all meetings with the team and artist, working closely with an artist to develop programming, and serving as the face of the organization with the public as needed.
