About us
At Appa (appahealth.com), we are on a mission to empower every teen with world-class mentorship and mental health skills. We are a dynamic team of operators, technologists, clinicians, and mentors all motivated around our mission to serve teens. In addition to digital tools, Appa supports teens with a virtual mentor (all mentor and mentee interactions occur online) who has evidence-based training to help them meet their goals.
We are looking for near-peer mentors who can identify with any of the following:
? Shared Lived Experiences including:
? Foster Care
? Homelessness
? Mental Health Concerns
? BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of... Color)
? Justice-involved / Juvenile Delinquency
? LGBTQIA
? Familiarity with rural communities and settings
About the role
Our virtual mentoring program is dedicated to empowering the next generation by providing them with support, accountability, and valuable life skills from people who ?get it.? As a mentor, this role requires individuals to be able to relate to teens with shared lived experience. We believe that mentorship plays a crucial role in shaping young minds and fostering personal growth. As a virtual program, you can participate from anywhere, bringing your enthusiasm and knowledge to aspiring teens who need it the most.
All Appa mentors will undergo extensive training in evidence-based support techniques to provide exceptional mentorship to teens. In addition to providing weekly individual support to adolescents (13 - 18 years old), mentors will attend weekly supervision meetings led by a licensed therapist to enhance their skills and build community among fellow mentors.

Must be:
? Identify as Gen Z ? Millennial (Appa provides teens with near-peer mentors)

? Competent in understanding diverse communities (e.g., geographic, demographic, etc. diversity)
? Gifted at connecting and relating to diverse teens (including racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and neurodevelopmental diversity)
Where you'll make an impact:
? You'll work a part-time, flexible, contractor schedule of ~12 hours/week
? Flexibility to mentor teens when and where it works for you between the hours of 3pm to 8pm (Pacific Time) via live video and text-based chat
? Be an active member of our mentor community by participating in weekly mentor group consultation
? Drive our mission forward by providing critical feedback to our operations team as we build and scale our innovative model to reach millions of teens
? Thoughtfully integrate fun and creativity into virtual mentoring relationships with teens
? Engage in and provide feedback on company trainings and tools to positively impact the day-to-day work experience
You'll be successful if you:
? Have graduated with a 4-year college degree
? Degree in psychology, social work, or related mental health service field (or relevant experience working with young people. Such as a sports coach, mentor, peer support specialist, etc.)
? Pass a comprehensive background check
? Have previous experience working with minors or working in a mental health setting
? Have a strong ability to connect and relate to diverse teens (including racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and neurodevelopmental diversity)
? Are extremely tech-savvy with ample experience using platforms relevant for teens, such as social media, gaming, and phone apps
? Are a strong communicator and have the ability to motivate others
? Have a desire to learn and share experiences among a diverse team
? Have reliable internet connection for conducting video sessions
Compensation
