Job Summary The Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology is looking for an Animal Health Technician to work on Cardiac electrophysiology research, specifically with an expertise in large animal cardiovascular research such as open chest electrophysiological procedures, creation of large animal models of atrial fibrillation, gene therapy procedures, and trans-venous electrophysiological procedures. Responsibilities Assists with animal experimentation, including large animal cardiovascular research such as open chest electrophysiological procedures, creation of large animal models of atrial fibrillation, gene therapy procedures, transvenous electrophysiological procedures, creation of myocardial infarction in porcine and canine models, electrophysiological mapping of the atria and ventricles. Ensures compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies. May prepare and maintain protocol submissions and revisions. Performs daily pacemaker interrogations and health checks on dogs. Maintains and organizes veterinary and experimental records. Ensures information on animal health or behavior changes is communicated to veterinary team. Assists vets with surgeries and procedures. Cleans, sterilizes and packs surgical instruments. Helps with lab maintenance, ordering of supplies, stocking shelves, and clean-up. Performs basic lab technique, including making of buffers, pipetting, immunoblots, PCR, and microscopy. Performs experiments for specific projects. Records findings/results. Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project. Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
