Role: Airline Systems (TPF / C / PostgreSQL / Azure) Performance Optimization Consultant Location: Remote (Travel to client site if required) Start Date: ASAP Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Performance Optimization Consultant to analyze and improve the performance of an airline ticketing, scheduling, and check-in system. The application was originally developed in TPF Mainframe Assembler, later translated into C, enhanced with additional C code, integrated with a PostgreSQL database, and deployed on Azure Virtual Machines. The system is currently facing performance bottlenecks, and the consultant will be responsible for identifying root causes and recommending minor, targeted optimizations without major architectural changes. Key Responsibilities • Conduct a comprehensive performance assessment of the full application stack (C code, PostgreSQL, Azure infrastructure). • Analyze CPU, memory, and I/O utilization on Azure VMs to identify bottlenecks. • Review translated Assembler-to-C code and identify inefficiencies. • Recommend and validate code-level performance optimizations. • Analyze PostgreSQL queries, indexing strategies, and schema design for performance improvements. • Assess network latency and application flow for optimization opportunities. • Propose configuration tuning and infrastructure-level improvements. • Document findings and present a clear performance improvement plan. Required Skills & Experience • Strong expertise in C programming and performance tuning. • Experience working with legacy systems migrated from Assembler to C. • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL performance optimization (query tuning, indexing, connection pooling). • Hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Machines and performance monitoring tools. • Experience using profiling and diagnostic tools (e.g., gprof, perf, database analyzers). • Ability to deliver quick, practical performance improvements without major redesign. • Experience in high-transaction, mission-critical systems. Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience with TPF systems or mainframe-based applications. • Familiarity with airline reservation, ticketing, scheduling, or check-in systems. • Knowledge of Azure scaling strategies and cost-performance optimization. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills. • Knowledge of the Airline / Aviation industry is a plus.
