Agriculture Technician - AI Trainer (Contract)

Overview Handshake is recruiting an Agriculture Technician to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed. In this program, you’ll leverage your professional experience to evaluate what AI models produce in your field, assess content related to your field of work, and deliver clear, structured feedback that strengthens the model’s understanding of your workplace tasks and language. The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise. Details tThe position is remote and asynchronous; work independently from wherever you are. tThe hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs tThe work includes developing prompts for AI models that reflect your field, and then evaluating responses. tYou’ll learn new skills and contribute to how AI is used in your field tYour placement into a project will be dependent on project availability—if you apply now and can’t work on this project, more will be available soon. Qualifications tYou have at least 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following types of work. tThe examples below reflect the types of real-world responsibilities that you might have had in your role that will give you the context needed to evaluate and train high-quality AI models tPrepare land for cultivated crops, orchards, or vineyards by plowing, discing, leveling, or contouring. tOperate farm machinery, including tractors, plows, mowers, combines, balers, sprayers, earthmoving equipment, or trucks. tRecord data pertaining to experimentation, research, or animal care. tMaintain or repair agricultural facilities, equipment, or tools to ensure operational readiness, safety, and cleanliness. tPerform crop production duties, such as tilling, hoeing, pruning, weeding, or harvesting crops. tCollect animal or crop samples. tExamine animals or crop specimens to determine the presence of diseases or other problems. tSet up laboratory or field equipment as required for site testing. tSupervise or train agricultural technicians or farm laborers. tConduct studies of nitrogen or alternative fertilizer application methods, quantities, or timing to ensure satisfaction of crop needs and minimization of leaching, runoff, or denitrification. tPrepare laboratory samples for analysis, following proper protocols to ensure that they will be stored, prepared, and disposed of efficiently and effectively. tMeasure or weigh ingredients used in laboratory testing. tPerform tests on seeds to evaluate seed viability. tPrepare data summaries, reports, or analyses that include results, charts, or graphs to document research findings and results. tPerform laboratory or field testing, using spectrometers, nitrogen determination apparatus, air samplers, centrifuges, or pH meters. tSupervise pest or weed control operations, including locating and identifying pests or weeds, selecting chemicals and application methods, or scheduling application. tDevise cultural methods or environmental controls for plants where guidelines are sketchy or nonexistent. tConduct insect or plant disease surveys. tPerform general nursery duties, such as propagating standard varieties of plant materials, collecting and germinating seeds, maintaining cuttings of plants, or controlling environmental conditions. tRecord environmental data from field samples of soil, air, water, or pests to monitor the effectiveness of integrated pest management (IPM) practices. tDetermine the germination rates of seeds planted in specified areas. tTransplant trees, vegetables, or horticultural plants. tPrepare culture media following standard procedures. tRespond to general inquiries or requests from the public. tPrepare or present agricultural demonstrations. tAssess comparative soil erosion from various planting or tillage systems, such as conservation tillage, ridge-till, no-till, or conventional tillage systems. tYou’re able to participate in asynchronous work in partnership with leading AI labs.
