Advocacy Specialist

Disability Law Colorado is dedicated to advocating for individuals with disabilities, and they are seeking an Advocacy Specialist. This role serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking assistance, providing guidance and connecting them to appropriate resources through effective intake and advocacy efforts. Responsibilities Respond to calls, emails, online intakes, and mailed intakes to gather relevant information for legal team to determine next steps Provide information, referrals, and technical assistance Maintain expertise in the Disability Advocacy Database (DAD) case management system and correctly log all intake information Provide input for discussion about intakes at weekly team meetings Provide self-advocacy and short-term assistance to people with disabilities Directly advocate on behalf of individuals with disabilities, as appropriate, under the guidance of a DLC attorney Maintain basic knowledge of current statutes, regulations, and policies affecting people with disabilities Assist the legal team in updating relevant self-advocacy resources Demonstrate a commitment to customer service, including eliciting feedback through surveys and conversations Provide trainings on disability rights Represent DLC in community outreach, coalitions, and public forums Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail related to intake and self-advocacy Manage electronic documents and maintain documents per office protocol Skills High school diploma or G.E.D Experience interacting with members of the public in a customer service or similar environment, particularly those who are upset or experiencing a crisis Experience conducting triage of client needs in a fast-paced Proficiency with office technology, databases, Microsoft Suite applications, and online meeting platforms Determination of suitability from the Social Security Administration within the first six months of employment and the ability to preserve that credential during the course of employment Commitment to disability justice, equity, and self-advocacy Bachelor's degree in a relevant field Experience gathering and entering information into a database At least two (2) years of experience advocating with or for people with disabilities and/or other marginalized populations Fluency in Spanish Experience working with ASL interpreters, assistive technology, people whose primary language is not English, and accessibility problem-solving Benefits 403(b) retirement plan Medical, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance Short- and long-term disability coverage Company Overview Disability Law Colorado protects and promotes the rights of people with disabilities in Colorado through direct legal representation, advocacy, education and legislative analysis.
