Oakland Adult & Career Education, a part of the Oakland Unified School District, is seeking a dedicated and passionate Adult Education Hourly Teacher - English as a Second Language (ESL) to join our online team! As an ESL teacher, you will play a vital role in preparing and delivering competency-based instruction to equip adult students with language and cultural proficiencies, enabling them to participate fully in American society and transition to college and career.
About the Role:
Provide high-quality, engaging ESL instruction in an online setting
Develop and align ESL curriculum with college and career readiness skills
Foster a supportive learning environment that enhances language fluency and self-esteem
Integrate English literacy and civics instruction (EL Civics) and facilitate blended learning
Monitor student progress and submit required data and accountability documentation
Requirements:
Valid non-emergency California teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in ESL
Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience with adult students, focusing on course planning, instruction, student assessment, and evaluation
Familiarity with the State Department of Education's English as a Second Language Model Standards
Master's degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field preferred; TESOL certificate desirable
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire confidence and maintain adequate attendance
