Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking an adjunct instructor for Mathematical and Quantitative Reasoning!

Summary of Responsibilities

Under the direction of the department chair or assistant department chair, instructors shall perform some or all of the following duties:
• Teach a variety of Mathematical or Quantitative Reasoning courses
• Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught
• Prepares instructional materials including course syllabi, exams, and instructional materials as necessary
• Evaluates student learning utilizing accepted assessment strategies
• Engages classes in a student-oriented approach to instruction
• Maintains and submits records of student accountability and performance
• Provide an open, student-centered, discrimination-free classroom environment

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduated from an accredited university with a minimum of a B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field. 18 credit hours of graduate-level mathematics/statistics or a level 4 mathematics endorsement are required to teach MAT1000 or above.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field
• At least two years of teaching developmental math classes or quantitative reasoning classes at the college level
• Experience in teaching non-traditional students

• Knowledge of the principles and methodology of the subject matter and course content.
• Skill in instruction strategies and techniques.
• Skill in classroom management.
• Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
• Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty, and others effectively.
• Ability to engage in innovative, student-centered pedagogy.
• Interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and supervisory skills.
