The City of Moreno Valley is now hiring an Accounting Assistant in the Financial Operations Division of the Financial & Management Services Department. THE POSITION The Accounting Assistant (Cashier) plays a vital role in supporting the City’s financial operations by performing a variety of accounting and clerical tasks. This position is responsible for processing accounts payable and receivable, handling cash receipts, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with business license and utility user tax programs. The Accounting Assistant ensures compliance with established procedures and exercises sound judgment in resolving routine financial discrepancies. IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and dependable professional with a strong foundation in accounting principles and clerical financial processes. They thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate excellent organizational skills, and are comfortable handling sensitive financial data with discretion. They are proficient in standard office software and financial systems, and they bring a proactive approach to resolving issues and improving processes. A background in public sector finance is a plus, and a commitment to public service and teamwork is essential. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in performing financial, statistical, recordkeeping or cashiering duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a public agency is especially desirable. ABOUT THE FINANCIAL & MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT The Financial & Management Services (FMS) Department is comprised of six divisions: Financial Resources, Financial Operations, Payroll, Purchasing & Sustainability, and Special Districts. The department’s responsibilities include sound internal controls and providing meaningful financial reporting. FMS manages the City’s finances and safeguards its assets. The FMS Department provides a wide range of support services to other City departments through its six divisions, including: budget and financial oversight; preparation of financial reports, completion of annual audits, investment and debt management; accounts receivable, cashiering, and accounts payable; Payroll; Special Districts; and Grant Management.
