Accountant / Assistant Controller (100% Remote)

Remote Full-time
Who We Are

At Jordan CPA Services, we’re building a firm where we’d want to work, rooted in growth, transparency, and a true love of collaboration. We’re a traditional bookkeeping, tax, and accounting firm, but more like a teaching hospital - “see one, do one, teach one” - learning skills, empowering clients, and mentoring teammates. Our clients trust us for clear communication and efficiency, but also for the precision and expertise that helps them feel confident in their numbers.

Our culture isn’t the noise of corporate grind, it's the quiet hum of clarity and mutual respect. Jordan is a place for professionals who hold a high bar for themselves, bringing tenacity and consistency to their work. Our vision is to not just be the best place to work, but an intentionally balanced environment for the kind of people who understand drive and want to create with us.

Who You Are

For this role we’re looking for a seasoned pro who’s ready to lead, not just execute. You won’t be slogging data entry, reconciliations, or payroll. Instead, you’ll be reviewing financials, managing 15–25 client relationships, mentoring bookkeepers, participating in client strategy, advisory, and doing cleanup, elevating the work and our teams across the board. You’re driven, insightful, and comfortable taking feedback as fuel.

You’ve outgrown the grind and are ready to bring controller-level insight to the table: leading client meetings with focus, explaining financials with confidence, and helping business owners better understand gross profit, cash flow, and trends across their balance sheet and income statements.

You think critically, communicate clearly, and are as sharp on-camera as you are setting internal standards. We’re building a team that sees and reflects back your value in how you're supported, trusted, and challenged. This is your permission slip to do great things without sacrificing yourself in the process.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Managing 15-25 client relationships on a regular basis and leading client meetings, effectively explaining financial position and educating them in financial literacy, including gross profit, trends across the balance sheet and income and cash flow statements, cash projections, inventory turnover, etc.
• Working actively with bookkeepers to provide accurate financial reports, and reviewing their work by confirming accuracy and backup documentation for each transaction, while providing helpful feedback for improvement
• Completing monthly and annual closing of books as prescribed in client proposals, including, but not limited to:
• Verifying bank accounts and credit cards have been reconciled
• Ensuring balance sheet line items are accurate, adjusting accruals, depreciation, amortization, etc. as necessary
• Preparing financial statements
• Onboarding new clients with cleanup and catch-up work as necessary, developing and documenting procedures for ongoing services
• Managing clients’ software stacks, ensuring all integrations are maintained
• Implementing and communicating changes to streamline and automate accounting functions, and monitoring their effectiveness to ensure technology platforms are simplified and functioning efficiently
• Maintaining online project management tools to stay organized and manage tasks to project completion

What You’ve Already Got
• 3+ years of Client Accounting Services (CAS) experience, working directly with 15-30 clients on a regular basis in full cycle bookkeeping and accounting, including in the areas of payroll and cash flow analysis and forecasting.
• 5+ years public accounting or CAS firm experience required
• 3+ years of recent QuickBooks Online experience (QBO Advanced Certification a plus)
• Solid working knowledge of our accounting tech stack, such as BILL, Gusto, or similar apps (bonus points for Karbon experience!)
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience successfully working in a working in a collaborative remote environment using Slack, Microsoft Teams, or similar remote communication apps
• Proficiency with managing your workload in an organized, tech-enabled environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in communicating financial literacy in an easy-to-understand manner
• Capability to adapt and pivot to client needs with ease and curiosity in a changing, deadline-driven environment
• While tax preparation is not a requirement for this position, experience with or understanding of standard tax-related bookkeeping and accounting adjustments, and the related implications on both entity returns and the owners’ individual tax returns is a major plus

What We Give
• Hourly pay: $30-40 per hour, commensurate with experience
• Our goal is to avoid overwork. We believe in sustainable growth and healthy schedules, and therefore pay overtime at 1.5x the hourly rate for any hours worked over 40 per week
• Company-paid life, short-term and long-term disability insurance
• Health insurance plan available with partial employer contribution
• Employee-paid dental and vision insurance plans available
• Retirement plan with up to 4% company match
