About the position The Academic Advisor I position at Valdosta State University is a fully remote role designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting students in their educational journeys. This position is part of the Online College for Career Advancement and involves advising students on various aspects of their academic and personal development. The advisor will play a crucial role in guiding students through their educational paths, helping them select appropriate courses, and ensuring they are aware of the resources available to them. In this role, the advisor will spend a significant portion of their time advising students, which constitutes 45% of the job responsibilities. This includes providing guidance on educational, career, personal, and social development needs, as well as referring students to relevant academic and personal resources. The advisor will also be responsible for interpreting academic policies and degree requirements, which accounts for 15% of the duties. Maintaining and updating student files and records is another critical responsibility, ensuring compliance with FERPA regulations, which also takes up 15% of the advisor's time. The advisor will facilitate programs that assist students in exploring career options and transitioning from high school to college, which is another 15% of the role. Finally, monitoring student academic progress and providing developmental programming focused on academic needs will take up the remaining 10% of the advisor's responsibilities.
