About the positionThe University of Missouri is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor for the Division of Biological Sciences within the College of Arts & Science. This role focuses on providing comprehensive academic advising and resource referrals to undergraduate students, assisting them in achieving their academic and career goals. The advisor will play a crucial role in guiding students through important academic decisions, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance student success.Responsibilities • Counsel students about career resources, co-curricular activities, and necessary resources to support their professional and personal interests. • Engage in professional development and advising practices that support students from diverse backgrounds. • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of every student interaction, including in-person, phone, and online visits. • Collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Division Director, and departmental faculty on curriculum and student success issues.• Stay updated on current issues and trends related to college students' academic success and career readiness through active professional development. • Serve on committees and represent the department at campus-wide events. Requirements • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • At least 1 year of experience in advising, counseling, teaching, or admissions work. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Nice-to-haves • A Master's degree in a related field.• Experience in higher education, particularly in student support.
