2026 West Wing Writers Spring Internship

Remote Full-time
Maybe you've got an ear for rhythm, an eye for detail, a mind for research—and a stomach for revision, revision, revision. Maybe you've been inspired by a powerful op-ed, or read one and thought, "I could make that better!" Maybe you've read the copy on the back of your favorite product, or on the website of your favorite company, and imagined a better way to tell its story. Maybe you've been mesmerized by a soaring keynote, or fidgeted through a dull one, and wondered about the process that makes speeches what they are.

If so, you might be just the person we're looking for.

West Wing Writers offers full-time, paid internships to a select few candidates who are interested in learning more about a career in speechwriting and strategic communications.

We don't expect interns to have experience in the industry before, but we do want people who are excellent researchers and love to write; people who are creative, curious, thoughtful, motivated, and dependable.

Every day we come to work, we partner with a wide array of clients around the world—from Fortune 500 Companies to progressive activists—to find their voice, hone their message, and push for change. As an intern, you'll be an integral part of the West Wing Writers team, learning about, observing, and even contributing to the process by which big ideas are formed, articulated, and amplified. All our interns are paired with an on-staff mentor who provides feedback and guidance throughout the internship, and will have the opportunity to learn about research and writing through structured seminars and a variety of projects.

Our interns have gone on to write for leaders at the Human Rights Campaign, Teach for America, Planned Parenthood, and YouTube; for foreign ambassadors, senators, and cabinet secretaries — even for the President of the United States.

The internship is full-time—9am-6pm, five days a week—and interns receive $3,300 (pre-tax) each month. This is a remote position, though we do have an employee hub in New York City and Washington, DC. If interns are located in the area, they will be invited to staff events and be able to work with teams in person once a week. Interns are required to work in the contiguous United States.

The internship is only open to rising college seniors, college seniors, and college graduates, as well as non-college graduates with at least 5 years of full-time communications and writing experience.

West Wing Writers is committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment. We strongly encourage members of historically underrepresented groups to apply, including people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, gender-nonconforming people, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and multilingual individuals.

We will accept applications until 9:00 am EST on Monday, September 8th.

Requirements
• Extensive research experience
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated interest in writing and communications
• Authorized to work and accept employment in the United States
